Connecting With Cadets

By: Thea Young, CCA Student (11th Grade)
“Freedom is not free, for it is paid for by those that protect it.” Learn how CCA Elementary students have made connections with West Point cadets through a program founded by CCA alumnus Brock Peyton (Class of 2022) who is currently in his second year at the United States Military Academy. To all who have served and are currently serving – we honor and salute you! 🇺🇸

As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day and honor those who have made sacrifices to serve and protect our country, the CCA community recognizes its alumni who have answered this high calling.

One such alumnus is Brock Peyton – the son of Naomi Peyton, CCA’s International Student Program Director. Brock started his CCA journey in Pre-K and graduated in 2022. He is currently in his second year at the United States Military Academy at West Point, majoring in American Politics.

According to Quad Education (Banks, 2023), “West Point is notorious for being very selective, with an 11% acceptance rate. Those admitted are expected to have stellar academics, strong leadership skills, and be in peak physical condition to keep up with the school’s intense military training.”

Banks (2023) also notes that a formal nomination from a U.S. representative, senator, or vice president is required for acceptance into West Point, which involves an interview process. Brock was nominated by Senator Marco Rubio, and because of his acceptance, tuition costs as well as room and board are fully funded.

When Brock graduates from West Point, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and hopes to branch into the Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialty during his time serving as an officer.

Inspiring Future Leaders

In an effort to remain connected to his alma mater and inspire the next generation of students at CCA, Brock founded the Cadet Connect Program last school year when he was a Plebe (first-year student) at West Point.

Through this program, Elementary students at CCA's Fort Lauderdale campus (including students in our Spanish Immersion classes!) had the opportunity to learn about the life of West Point cadets and develop an appreciation for these young soldiers in training. They also got to write letters to cadets and send them care packages. In return, cadets sent CCA students videos to express their thanks and share updates on their West Point experience.

This personal and engaging experience has helped CCA students better understand military training and the sacrifices made by cadets in their quest to become servant-leaders. CCA is proud to share that the Cadet Connect Program will continue in the Elementary school this school year, and Brock will continue to lead this program as a “Yearling” (second-year student).
