Class of 2019 Is Ready to Shine Their Light!
The CCA Baccalaureate Ceremony is a time for students, parents, and faculty to pause and reflect on what God has done in and through the graduating class.
One of our greatest joys as teachers and administrators is to watch our students walk across the stage at the Graduation Ceremony.
How many lunches packed, loads of laundry, and late-night study sessions did it take to get here? Not to mention, hundreds of thousands of hours in the classroom as well as countless early mornings spent piling into the car. It’s crazy how fast time flies!
Parents, you know this well. Like you, many of us have had the privilege of seeing some of these students go from learning their ABCs to now preparing to study at some of the best colleges in the nation.
That’s why each graduation season we take a moment to pause and reflect at a final Senior Retreat, followed by the Baccalaureate Ceremony. It’s an opportunity for students to reflect on their journey and give thanks to God for all that He has accomplished in and through them over the years.
People in this world will need them to give direction to those who don’t know Christ and point them to Him.
The spiritual theme for this school year was “Distinct” based off of Romans 12:1-2, which says,
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
At our final night of the Senior Retreat, many of the students shared that they learned to be distinct in how they lived out their faith, despite trying times for many of them. They’ve experienced challenges in friendships, choosing a school, and family situations, but through all that they had faith that helped them see past the temporal things that we trust in but often fail us in the end.
CCA’s Class of 2019 aspire to embody Matthew 5:13-16 and "shine as lights" in a dark world. Light illuminates our path and gives direction. People in this world will need them to give direction to those who don’t know Christ and point them to Him.
Light also exposes things — things like hurt, pain, and injustice — so you can see them and deal with them. Lastly, when we live with hope and shine our light, it helps others have the confidence to know they can shine too and it liberates others to do the same.
Our hope is that students would spread the name of Jesus Christ as they go into any college, activity, and future vocation and not be afraid to represent Him as ambassadors of a life-changing faith.
Steve Mayo serves as the Director of Discipleship at CCA. In his role as director of youth discipleship he also assists in overseeing the CCFL six78 and HSM ministries. He and his wife Morgan have three children, Titus, Quincy, and Maxwell, who all attend CCA.
