Overwhelming Response from Venezuelan Pastors Inspires Action
Response from pastors serving in Venezuela inspires further support from our community.
In the fall of 2018, Calvary Christian Academy, church members, and many members of the South Florida community rallied together to provide life-saving provision for Venezuelans suffering without access to basic necessities. International Student Program Director, Naomi Peyton, led the charge after learning more about the country’s struggles from Venezuelan native and CCA Alum, Abraham Herrera. “Supermarkets can’t afford to import or stock most goods,” said Mrs. Peyton regarding inflation rates. “Even basic food items are astronomically priced.” Mrs. Peyton was extended an opportunity to speak on Moody Radio South Florida and invite the community to get involved.
Through CCA’s SOS Venezuela, 129 boxes filled with baby formula, hygiene products, canned foods and other basic provisions were sent to Venezuelan pastors who distributed the goods to their communities in Jesus’ name. Every single box sent was received! “We’re grateful for so much love and generosity and we can see the hand of God through you, as we received the boxes yesterday," said one pastor. The Spanish Honor Society also wrote letters with prayers and encouragements to the pastors and churches who received the boxes. "The letters of the children are beautiful. May God bless you for such beautiful words,” shared another recipient.
The effort to help didn't stop then. The overwhelming response led to a second round of collections from February through April 2019. The CCA community and people from all over South Florida donated enough supplies to fill 154 boxes, and over $10,000 was collected to be used toward shipping. In total, 283 boxes filled with food, medicine, and other life-saving supplies were sent to the pastors and pediatrician distributing hope and provisions to local Venezuelan communities.
We’d like to thank the many who contributed SOS Venezuela, Moody Radio, CCA’s Spanish Honor Society, and Marty and Mercedes Ayala.
