25 Prayers for 25 Years | Day 3 | Praising God for His Wisdom
By: Jan Lashbrook
In today’s devotional, CCA Fort Lauderdale’s Early Childhood Director, Jan Lashbrook, shares her heart of praise, honoring God’s wisdom and exhorting us to walk in it.
Scriptures:
"For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding."
–Proverbs 2:6
"Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them."
–Proverbs 4:5
"By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."
–Proverbs 24:3-4
Reflection:
Today, I want to praise God for giving us as believers a valuable gift—the ability to walk in His wisdom. God wants his children to have wisdom. But just because we are Christians doesn’t mean that we walk in wisdom all the time, does it? It’s something that we grow in, just like Jesus did.
Twenty-five years ago, this “house” that we call Calvary Christian Academy was built (Proverbs 24:3-4). I had the privilege of attending the introductory meeting that the Calvary Chapel pastors held to gauge community interest in the formation of this school.
The leaders of the church shared their vision and calling to start a Covenant Christian school–a place with the unique mission of serving Christian families who wanted a school that would support the discipleship already happening in their homes. I remember being struck by the wisdom and thoughtful preparation of information presented by the pastors, and I wanted to be a part of the beginning of CCA.
The inaugural year of CCA started with 400 students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade, and in the years since, we have grown to almost 2,500 students on this campus, ranging from Pre-K to High School. In addition, we have expanded to three other campuses: Hollywood, Boynton Beach, and North Miami.
The growth and discipleship that have happened over the past 25 years at CCA could not have happened without the wisdom and discernment that only comes from God. Through the years, I have watched our pastoral and school leadership walk in wisdom and integrity, always looking to the Lord for HIS strength and HIS guidance to determine the next steps to serve our CCA community of believers as best they can.
So how do we get this wisdom?
TRUE wisdom comes from first listening to God, because HE is the source of all wisdom. That involves spending time with HIM and His Word, above all other pursuits.
We also gain wisdom when we surround ourselves with wise, godly people who speak truth into our lives. When we listen to and act on wise counsel, we walk in wisdom.
And finally, we get wisdom when we learn from our mistakes. Failure can be our best teacher if we reflect on it, learn the lesson God has for us, and don’t repeat the same mistakes.
I praise God that He called a group of pastors and educators, equipped them, and gave them the wisdom they needed to start Calvary Christian Academy. I’m so thankful I could be a part of this adventure for the past 25 years!
Prayer:
